Begos Horgan & Brown LLP

Firm Overview

Begos Horgan & Brown LLP is a full-service law firm representing businesses and individuals. We engage in sophisticated business, financial and insurance related litigation, trials and appeals in all courts, state and federal, in New York and Connecticut as well as securities arbitrations before the New York Stock Exchange and NASD. Our practice areas include general commercial and corporate disputes, securities litigation, debtor/creditor disputes, insurance coverage disputes, real estate litigation, employment-related litigation, real estate purchase and sales and trust and estates. We have offices in Westport, Connecticut and Bronxville, New York.

The firm's lawyers have extensive backgrounds in their fields, as well as substantial big firm experience. Accordingly, the firm offers its clients the best of both worlds — the ability to produce a superb, creative and effective work product which is the calling card of larger firms, without sacrificing the efficiency and attention which clients expect from a smaller firm.

Trial and Appellate Group

The trial and appellate group is the largest group in the firm. It engages in sophisticated business, financial and insurance related litigation, including trials and appeals in state and federal, in New York and Connecticut as well as arbitrations before the NYSE, NASD and AAA.

One of the largest areas of concentration for this group is representing ERISA plan administrators and employers in ERISA claim disputes. The firm's lawyers are on the cutting edge of ERISA litigation, and they are often instrumental in persuading the courts to adopt or implement procedures to streamline the ERISA claim litigation process.

The group also frequently represents:

  • insurance companies in disability and other insurance coverage disputes;
  • business owners in corporate governance disputes;
  • investors in disputes with stock brokers;
  • real estate developers, property managers and contractors in construction defect claims, lease disagreements and construction contract claims;
  • debtors and creditors in bankruptcy, foreclosure and lender liability litigation;
  • employers and employees in employment disputes;
  • buyers, sellers and owners in real estate litigation;
  • fiduciaries and beneficiaries in probate and estate litigation; and
  • plaintiffs and defendants in appeals of lower court decisions.

Transactional Group

The transactional group focuses its resources primarily on individuals and small-to-mid-sized businesses. This group represents and counsels:

  • buyers, sellers, borrowers and lenders in the purchase, sale, financing and refinancing of diverse assets, including businesses, and commercial real estate and residential real estate.
  • condominium and cooperative boards in he management of their properties.
  • business owners in business formation and corporate governance.

Estate Planning and Probate Group

The estate planning and probate group:

  • develops and implements strategies for wealth preservation and distribution through the use of wills; trusts (including inter vivos trusts, causa mortis trusts, testamentary trusts and life insurance trusts); and powers of attorney.
  • helps clients to implement their health care preferences even if they become incapacitated, by preparing living wills and arranging for the appointment of health care agents.
  • guides families through the probate and estate administration processes.
